How to Resolve Subscription Payment Issues and Paused Subscriptions

When managing subscriptions, issues such as payment failures or pauses can arise, often requiring specific actions to resolve. Below, we outline common scenarios and their solutions to help you address these challenges efficiently.

Why Was My Subscription Paused?

A subscription is typically paused when a payment attempt fails. This happens because the payment system cannot process the due charge, and the subscription status changes to "paused" with a "pending payment" notice. Updating your credit card in the general account profile does not automatically update the payment method for existing subscriptions. To resolve this:

  1. Navigate to the subscription’s specific settings.

  2. Update the payment method directly within the subscription.

  3. Ensure the payment details are accurate and complete.

  4. If there are multiple payment methods configured, select and prioritize the one you prefer for this subscription.

Once a successful payment is processed, your subscription will resume automatically.

How to Update Payment Details for a Failed Subscription Payment

If payment for a subscription fails after updating your credit card details, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the subscription settings in your account dashboard.

  2. Enter the updated card information in the payment section specific to that subscription.

  3. Save the new payment method. The system will attempt to process the payment.

  4. Confirm that the updated payment details are saved successfully before exiting the settings page.

If you are switching to a new payment method like iDEAL or another regional payment system, cancel your existing subscription and create a new one with the desired payment method. Ensure all necessary details are completed during the setup process for successful activation.

Resolving Reactivation Issues After a Payment Fails

In some cases, reactivating a paused subscription might not succeed immediately if previous payment failures remain unresolved. Ensure that payment has been processed by:

  • Verifying the updated payment details in the subscription settings.

  • Checking your preferred card’s transaction history for a successful charge.

After the payment is completed, your subscription will reactivate automatically.
